Omen III: The Final Conflict follows Damien Thorn as an adult, now embracing his Antichrist persona and preparing to trigger Armageddon.

Moments before Damien's plan comes to fruition, he's fatally stabbed by the mystical dagger of Megiddo, and in the last moments, heavenly light shines down from above, symbolising that good has triumphed over evil.

With this in mind, it made no sense when another instalment, Omen IV: The Awakening, was greenlit, centring around Damien's daughter, Delia. Rather than making her the new Antichrist, the writers cooked up a needlessly complicated backstory that Delia houses an embryo that was surgically transferred to a surrogate mother so it can become Damien's true successor.

Being the Devil's advocate, you could justify making another Omen if the creators had a great story to tell (much like the recent prequel, The First Omen). Sadly, The Awakening follows the beats of The Omen so shamelessly, it feels like a lazy remake.

Worst of all, Delia and her "kind of sibling" emerge victorious by the time the credits roll, making Damien's defeat feel inconsequential. The Final Conflict isn't great, but it's worse when revisited, since it's happy ending wasn't so happy after all.
