Box Office: $855 million

The only thing weirder than Venom making $850+ million worldwide is that, even with that shocking box office performance, freaking Aquaman still managed to beat it.

While it's easy to appreciate that Venom would perform well with the teenage crowd regardless of how it was received by critics, Aquaman grossing roughly $250 million more is just...mind-boggling.

Venom had Tom Hardy, a well-known comic book icon and the Marvel branding attached to it, while Aquaman had that bloke from Game of Thrones, a protagonist still trying not to be a laughing stock and the faint stink of the DCEU trailing behind it.

Basically, Warner Bros.' aggressive attempt to distance Aquaman from Justice League was a smart calculation that totally paid off. Even so, this one really beggars belief.
