10 Huge Movies That Were Instantly Forgotten

4. Super 8

J.J. Abrams may be many things, but a purveyor of movies destined to be forgotten? Not quite, and yet there's one anomaly among his body of work, and it's paradoxically his most personal project to date - 2011's sci-fi thriller Super 8.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and clearly conceived as a nostalgia-fuelled homage to his earlier works - namely E.T. - Super 8 had all the ingredients for a film that'd be remembered years and years later, yet despite performing well critically and commercially, discussion about it largely dried up within a year or two of release.

The film's bizarre lack of online presence is all the more puzzling given that '80s nostalgia became a hot ticket item in the years that followed, what with Stranger Things taking a similar approach and becoming a veritable pop-culture phenomenon.

Timing is everything, though, and Super 8's fusion of blockbuster thrills and family drama clearly didn't strike quite the same chord in the early 2010s.
