Everyone is aware of the different types of post-credit stings a movie can utilise, from the tease to what the future holds for a franchise, to revisiting a previous scene or character to give that part of the story its full stop, or even a purely comedic scene.

The latter can go one of two very different ways. Either the joke is worth waiting around for, or it's not funny in the slightest, only annoying those who waited the 10 minutes of credits to be disappointed.

The Matrix: Resurrections definitely falls into the category of the latter. Though not a franchise particularly well known for its humour, the final scene of the legacy sequel took a stab at making a joke that did nothing but fall completely flat.

Long after Neo (Keanu Reeves) created a trilogy of games based on his suppressed memories, the game developers brainstorm ideas for the fourth game in the franchise. The post-credits scene revisited the developers, who decided that movies, games, and narratives were dead, and that the only way forward was a string of cat videos that would be known as The Catrix.

Cat videos cornered their own share of the internet market many years ago, but it's a joke that feels incredibly dated at this point, and unfortunately just didn't land.
