7. Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg's dramatic prowess is well known. He's incredible turns in Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Departed and The Fighter solidified his standing as one of the best actors in Hollywood. He's also shown he does comedy as well as anyone with I Heart Huckabees, Ted and The Other Guys. And when he delves into action cinema, he's as engaging to watch as anyone. The vastly underappreciated Shooter showed Wahlberg could easily do the action-thriller without breaking a sweat and this year's Contraband was a decent film, made to appear better because of the likeable star. Mark Wahlberg, despite the Oscar nomination and working with auteurs like Paul Thomas Anderson and David O. Russell is still overlooked mainly because of a terrible 2008 where he starred in Max Payne and The Happening. He has everything needed to be an action star - charisma, comic-timing, a brooding coolness and a dominating screen presence. Probably the best pure actor on this list, he doesn't make many action movies, but he puts on an exciting show when he does.
