10 Hyped 2019 Movies That Disappointed Everyone
4. Gemini Man
With Gemini Man, Will Smith followed the likes of Legend's Tom Hardy, and Jack and Jill's Adam Sandler in starring opposite himself in a leading role. So not exactly elite company, and while the 2019 movie is certainly better than the latter, this isn't saying much at all. It is a poor movie.
Though it is an interesting concept, and an impressive feat to de-age Smith back to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air days, there is not much else to add into the plus column. Throughout the movie there is a lot of action, but none of it is really particularly gripping. It almost seems as though the studio relied completely on the novelty of seeing Will Smith vs. Will Smith, without actually putting the effort into the set pieces.
Gemini Man was first put together by Disney way back in the '90s, but the technology wasn't readily available so it was shelved. Since then there have been a ridiculous amount of rewrites and changes, including the cast from the original plan of Clint Eastwood, to Nicholas Cage, to finally Will Smith.
With the right technology finally allowing Gemini Man to go forward, it seems the studio greenlit the project without considering whether other aspects like the script or story were ready to go.
