10 Iconic Batman Comics That Could Inspire Matt Reeves' Batman Trilogy

1. Dark Victory

DC Comics / Tim Sale

Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s follow-up to Long Halloween, Dark Victory is in every way the quintessential Batman story.

It picks up from where Long Halloween left off. Holiday a.k.a. Alberto Falcone, Carmine’s son and notorious murderer is serving time in Arkham, while Bruce Wayne plunges into a state of self-loathing over not being able to stop Harvey Dent from going bad. Bruce then resorts to visiting Alberto in his cell. And right at that time, a mass breakout takes place.

Things get more twisted as the new District Attorney arranges for Alberto to be released, prompting Batman to launch a full-blown investigation into what’s really going on.

All sorts of villains, including Riddler, Joker and Two Face are roped in. The latter of whom then becomes the prime suspect in a string of high profile murders that follow. Not to mention, this also features an alternative introduction Dick Grayson's Robin.

It starts out as a simple enough detective story but soon develops so many layers that the final reveal, despite being somewhat simple on paper, somehow makes for a mind-blowing conclusion.

It’s the kind of plot that no Batman fan can ever complain about, and it should honestly be one of major sources of inspiration for the upcoming trilogy.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
