The titular monster in The Predator series has carved out a name for himself as one of the most recognisable monsters on screen - even if he is really a sports hunter and nothing like the name dished out in the 80s. And of course, since we're here, inside that hunk of leathery skin and mouth flaps was actually a lovely man named Kevin Peter Hall.

Hall was another actor used for his imposing height to fill out monster roles in horror movies, a professional basketball player utilised for the squint-worthy 7'3" he could deliver that made the big bads even bigger. Whoever said ball is life never got themselves inside a rubber Predator suit, it would seem.

Whilst he starred as the murderous extraterrestrial across the first two Predator movies, and had a bright career in the movie industry in various roles, Hall tragically died in his 30s of AIDS complications - after a blood transfusion gave him HIV.
