10 Iconic Things We Miss From Classic James Bond Films

8. Roger Moore Vs A Stuffed Tiger On Wheels

bond 8 - tiger

Blink and you'll miss it, but one of my favourite moments in any film, not just Bond, is Roger Moore's tiger encounter in Octopussy. When I was eight-years old, I was scared. Our hero was alone in the jungle, a hunting party on elephants not far behind, when a tiger pounced (seriously, they couldn't have made it more sterotypically Indian if they attacked him with naan bread). A good job the eight-year old me didn't spot the fact that the tiger was stuffed, likely on wheels, and was clearly just shoved into shot while someone pasted on a roar from BBC Sound Effects Vol 3 (animal noises). The shot lasts about 12 frames (hence the blurry pic) and immediately cuts to some stock footage of a very different looking lion (e.g. one that's alive and use legs to move) to try bridge the gap. Brilliant. So never mind CGI, let's see Daniel Craig fighting a Polar Bear and a Giant Squid stapled to the end of a snooker-cue next time please. http://youtu.be/Yn7S7Ye46Ls

I'm a Westcountry exile now living in Yorkshire with lovely wife and cats (also lovely). I'm a big fan of films, robots, timetravel, and films about timetravelling robots, as well as lots of other action, sci-fi and comedy. I'm currently trying to write a sitcom that doesn't involve robots, and I also blog nonsense on timolsky.blogspot.com. Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff, and feel free to comment.
