10 Iconic Things We Miss From Classic James Bond Films

7. Villainous Ambition

bond 7 - ambition

Skyfall's villain wants revenge, Quantum of Solace was about making money through the with-holding of water supplies (I think it was, I'm still a little confused) and Casino Royale was about getting a big wedge of cash. Where's the ambition from these villains gone? Bond baddies used to hold the world to ransom with nuclear bombs, threaten to irradiate all the gold in the world or blow up most of Turkey - just because daddy didn't love them enough. Let's face it, the bit where the baddie used to say "My plan, Mr Bond, IS TO CRASH THE MOON INTO THE EARTH WITH MY GIANT GRAVITRON BEAM" was always a highlight. Top marks to Hugo Drax for his plan to steal space-shuttles, build a giant secret space station, wipe out the entire population of the world from orbit, and repopulate it with mainly good looking people - a sort of world run by Ambercombie & Fitch - that's an 'A' for effort. Honestly, if we go the other way, we'll soon have Bond chasing after villains who have parked illegally, failed to return library books and not held the door open for ladies.

I'm a Westcountry exile now living in Yorkshire with lovely wife and cats (also lovely). I'm a big fan of films, robots, timetravel, and films about timetravelling robots, as well as lots of other action, sci-fi and comedy. I'm currently trying to write a sitcom that doesn't involve robots, and I also blog nonsense on timolsky.blogspot.com. Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff, and feel free to comment.
