10 Implications For The Success And Failure Of Batman V Superman
4. Things Will Lighten Up
For a movie that was about two superheroes punching each other, Batman V Superman was certainly lacking in fun. Snyder and co. no doubt wanted to give audiences something a bit different from the rest of the ever-present comic book genre, but the dour feeling throughout was simply off-putting for many.
Well, this seems to be a criticism Warner Bros. has taken to heart.
In stark contrast to rumours of a "no joke policy, recently there have been several deliberate attempts to ensure audiences that the DC films will indeed bring the laughs. When speaking about the upcoming Aquaman, director James Wan insisted they will not forget to “to have fun with it”, while The Flash is said to be “a little lighter” than some of the other DC films.
Most significant of all, it was reported that the next film in the universe, this summer’s Suicide Squad, would be receiving extensive reshoots in order to “add more humour and lightness to the movie”. While reshoots are nothing out of the ordinary for films like these, this seems like a direct response to the criticism.
