10 Implications For The Success And Failure Of Batman V Superman

So now Warner Bros is taking steps to correct some of the mistakes they made with Batman V Superman. That’s a smart move in theory, but might not be the easy solution they were hoping for.

It seems that those in charge are looking for quick fixes rather than really understanding the problem. Instead of deciding what kind of tone they want for their universe as a whole, they conclude that if people didn't like dark, they'll like light and apply that to everything.

Yes, Batman V Superman is overly grim, but a little humour wouldn’t fix the many other problems. And maybe Suicide Squad isn’t meant to be a “light” movie. If the film was made with a dark tone, adding some extra scenes of comedic relief could just make a muddle of things.

And then comes the question of which heroes should be given a lighter tone. No one wants to see Batman spouting off one-liners, yet The Flash is probably appropriate for a comedic take. Which is fine until you consider what happens when they meet. What tone will the Justice League films take when they try to mix in all these personalities?

The DCEU needs to find its voice before it proceeds too much further or they'll be stuck making band-aid solutions the whole time.
