Former Gossip Girl starlet and occasional shark battler Blake Lively has recently taken a deep dive into the world of guns, fist fights, and car chases in The Rhythm Section, an upcoming thriller from I Think We’re Alone Now helmer Reed Morano.

The relatively unknown director has also worked on the critically acclaimed adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, so we know she has serious thriller credentials and can stage a dramatic character-driven drama. But Lively has had to transform herself completely for the role, looking unrecognizable as the tough, revenge-seeking protagonist.

The film is banking on a central turn from Lively which redefines transformative, seeing her don a slew of disguises on top of an already unrecognizable short brown do and newly sinewy, action star physique which could go toe-to-toe with Bond any day.

We don’t know a lot about the plot ahead of the film’s upcoming release, though the cracking trailer does tease an impressive, kinetic fight sequence between Lively and co-star Jude Law, so hopefully we’ll get to see her martial arts chops put to the test onscreen after the months of preparatory work the role has put her through.
