4. The Spider-Pit Scene In King Kong

1933's King Kong is one of the most noteworthy films ever created, and while the special effects may seem dated today, they were revolutionary when it was released. The movie featured numerous scenes of stop-motion animation that are now iconic.

There were a number of amazing shots that made it into the movie, but there was one that was absent, and it's considered to be the most famous "lost" scene in movie history. The "Spider-Pit" scene was fully written, the live-action footage was shot, and the stop-motion animation was nearly completed. Unfortunately, it was all lost.

In the Spider-Pit scene, Jack Driscoll and his crew find themselves menaced by gigantic spiders after falling into the ravine, which would have terrified audiences in 1933. Unfortunately, the scene was cut from the final print, and the most likely reason for this was that the RKO executives felt it was too violent to remain.

While the original scene may have been lost, it was fully recreated by Peter Jackson in the style of the original. It's so well-done, few people could watch it cut into the 1933 film, and realize it wasn't actually from that movie.
