8. An Elevator (The Shaft)
The Shaft, also simply known as Down, was an early outing for Hollywood A-lister Naomi Watts - but that's not enough to prevent it from being utterly stupid and awful. When several people die unexpectedly in an express elevator in a New York City landmark called the Millennium Building, everyone understandably thinks it is nothing more than a mere technical problem. However, repairmen repeatedly cannot find any problems with the elevator, so it becomes clear that something else is going on. An investigative journalist, played by the aforementioned Naomi Watts, and an elevator mechanic seek to get to the bottom of what's causing the deaths, as officials try to play down the incidents and the government investigates them as terrorist attacks. The duo eventually discover that the elevator does indeed have a mind of its own - and that minds is homicidal. It's a ridiculous concept and makes for a very, very poor film.
