10 Indications The Golden Globes Have Given Us For The Oscars

3. 12 Years A Slave Isn€™t Running Away With Awards Like We Expected

Before the Golden Globes if you had asked anyone - provided they have some rudimentary awards knowledge - which movie or movies were guaranteed to sweep multiple categories, you would have gotten a resounding answer of 12 Years A Slave. The reasoning is obvious too; it€™s a fantastic film that tackles one of the darkest periods of our society with unabashed brutality and the gall to never flinch. It€™s probably the best and most truthful film ever made about American slavery. It lost in nearly every category it was pegged to win, though. Steve McQueen€˜s relentless direction lost, John Ridley€™s brutally honest screenplay adaptation lost, and for a movie with the strongest performances all year, it shockingly lost in every nominated category there, too. Simply put, 12 Years A Slave just isn€™t the monster we thought it was going to be. Instead, it€™s American Hustle raking in the awards - and once again I don€™t see the Academy Awards choosing much differently, as history shows that they are well in tune with David O. Russell.
