6. 33 Minutes Of Pure CGI - Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

Though the movie industry is currently in a time of unprecedented technology, there has been something of a stigma placed upon using CGI. Christopher Nolan famously uses practical effects where possible, as do many others, and certainly with the seemingly falling quality of computer graphics, it's not difficult to see why.

However, when done well, CGI can be an invaluable tool for filmmakers, particularly for some movies more so than others. For obvious reasons, the Planet of the Apes pictures have always used a huge amount of CGI, and the Caesar trilogy looked unbelievably good. However, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes took things a step further.

Rise, Dawn, and War all featured multiple human supporting characters, but not Kingdom. Freya Allen played Nova, but that was it in terms of "real" people on screen, and of course, she wasn't visible for the entire runtime.

As such, there were 33 minutes of the film that were completely digital, arguably made more impressive by the advances taken from the previous chapters of the story. There were more apes speaking better English, there were eagles to be created as well as said simians, and much more interaction in and around water, something that was made easier by utilising some of the techniques that went into creating Avatar: The Way of Water.
