The Rumour

Starting in 2015, Netflix's various MCU series introduced new live-action iterations of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).

This culminated in the team-up series The Defenders being released in the summer of 2017, with many fans understandably going on to believe the persistent rumours that this was setting up an appearance from the group in Avengers: Infinity War.

Given that Infinity War was the first part of a mammoth superhero convergence event, why wouldn't they be in the mix?

What Actually Happened

Alas the Defenders didn't show up in Infinity War, and the only member of the quartet to appear in any MCU movie to date is Daredevil, who of course made a short-but-sweet cameo appearance near the start of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

However, Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely did confirm in interviews that they considered putting the Defenders in the movie, yet felt that given its already huge scope and large cast of characters, it would only be "a glorified cameo."

The Russo brothers later added that a big part of the problem was co-ordinating the story beats between the various Defenders shows with the MCU and ensuring that everything synced up perfectly.
