Heading back down under for a piece of movie madness come to life, it turns out that the visual of a fed up Billy Bob Thornton donning the legendary red and white suit before eventually stealing from many a shopping mall in 2003 inspired a real-life Bad Santa to do the same.

Though it wasn't confirmed whether this particular festive thief was employed as a department store Father Christmas at the time of the robbery in question, a person very much kitted out in the unmistakable costume opted to walk out of an Australian Westfield shopping centre with the contents of a safe, according to police on the scene.

And while this Christmas Day 2012 stealing Santa also didn't appear to be allied with a foul-mouthed snowman/elf partner, they did at least entirely commit to their own Claus get-up, decking themselves out in a thick white beard to hide their facial features, white gloves to likely keep their finger prints from lingering at the scene of the crime, and even a red bag that assumedly boasted the stolen loot in question.

'Tis the season, and all that.
