10 Insane Movies That Were Almost Made

6. Batman Vs. Superman

Superman Flyby
Warner Bros.

The Movie: Years before the Zack Snyder version, Warner Bros attempted to bring Batman and Superman together on the big-screen, with Troy and The Perfect Storm director Wolfgang Petersen at the helm.

Batman & Robin (welp) screenwriter Akiva Goldsman hashed out the story, which would've opened with a retired Bruce Wayne getting married, and Clark Kent as his best man. Bruce's bride is then killed during their honeymoon - with the Joker suspected to be involved - and this brings The Dark Knight back into the game as he seeks revenge.

Eventually we learn that the Joker and Lex Luthor were behind the death of Bruce's wife, and that they even manipulated the two into falling in love in the first place, all so they could kill her and make Bats mad. As you do. Batman and Superman would then have fought, before kissing, making up, and taking Joker and Luthor down.

Why It Wasn't Made: As cool and crazy as this idea sounds, Warner Bros ultimately decided to keep the two franchises separate, with Christopher Nolan making Batman Begins and Bryan Singer working on Superman Returns. Batman Vs. Superman was actually slated for a 2004 release at one point though, and a version of the script can be found online, so it wasn't a million miles away from being made.
