10 Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

1. Evil Dead II (1987)

Prisoners of the Ghostland
New Line Cinema

Sam Raimi is a filmmaker known for his knack for blending zany slapstick with intense violence. After low-budget horror The Evil Dead became one of the most notoriously violent pictures of its time - earning itself an X certification and its place as a “video nasty” - the filmmaker would double down on his wickedly playful style for the sequel.

Part remake, part sequel, Evil Dead II once again saw the charismatically charming Bruce Campbell star as hapless hero Ash, who finds himself fighting for survival against the sadistic Deadites after he’s unable to escape the creepy cabin in the woods.

What follows is some of the funniest and goriest sequences in horror cinema, with the insanity only increasing as Ash is driven to madness with each confrontation with the undead. Whether it’s the headless corpse of his girlfriend clumsily wielding a chainsaw, Ash fighting against his own possessed hand, or the hero maniacally laughing alongside the furniture, Evil Dead II is one of the best times moviegoers can have with a horror film.

While Evil Dead Rise continued to deliver on the series' delightfully disgusting aesthetic, no other film in the franchise has matched the levels of sheer ridiculousness of the 1987 sequel.
