Being a special effects person must be pretty damn awesome, in the sense that a huge part of your job seems to involve mixing stuff together and seeing what comes out. When it came time to conjure up some alien-blood for Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick
Predator, which sees a group of soldiers stalked by a dangerous monster from outer space with a hunting fetish, the effects people knew that it to be unique (there would be lots, after all). So they got themselves some K-Y Jelly, a water-based lubricant, broke open some glow sticks (the kind you get at raves and stuff), and mixed the liquids together. And, yes, this merging brought about the iconic green blood that you know associate with the alien race know as "Predators." The most interesting thing about this, perhaps, is that special effects guys still use the same formula today, and have done since the first movie.
