3. The Water Droplets Are Condoms, Too (The Incredible Shrinking Man)

Well, at least these special effects guys are always prepared, right? Here's another case of a movie crew who decided that the world's favourite (or least favourite, I guess) latex device would improve their flick tenfold. If you've ever seen
The Incredible Shrinking Man, you'll know that it's about a man who is shrunk down to less than two inches in size. To be fair, if you haven't seen the movie, the title should be a dead giveaway, really. Most of the movie consists of our Incredible Shrinking Man going up against everyday things that we, as normal-sized persons, take for granted. Like, for example, water droplets, which - as you'd imagine - might not prove themselves to be quite so fun if you happen to be incredibly tiny. To achieve an effect that looked right, director Jack Arnold found that dropping water-filled condoms off the edge of a conveyer belt (?) gave him exactly what he was looking for. I don't know how or why he discovered this, and I think it's best kept that way.
