10 Insane Ways Movies Got Sabotaged

2. Warner Bros. Cancelled Its Release For A Tax Write-Down - Batgirl

The world is still reeling from the wildly unexpected news back in August, that Warner Bros. decided to cancel the release of their upcoming Batgirl film, which had already been shot and was deep into post-production at the time.

Fans and industry insiders scrambled to make sense of the decision, and though some cited murmurs of unsatisfying test screenings as the reason, a picture soon emerged that Warner Bros. wanted to focus their movie-making efforts on films for the big screen.

Made for HBO Max, Batgirl didn't fit that corporate vision, and so got the chop.

But in the days that followed, it was revealed that Warner Bros. cancelled the film primarily as a cost-cutting measure, deciding that it would be cheaper to cancel Batgirl and take a tax write-down rather than release it with additional production and marketing costs.

Though fans remain hopeful that Batgirl could eventually see the light of day, given that this would presumably require Warner Bros. returning any money received from their tax write-down, it sadly seems incredibly unlikely - short of an aggrieved party leaking it, of course.
