10 Intriguing Movie Roles Matt Smith Should Play

Doctor Who Matt Smith

There's no one quite like Morrissey. He arrived out of nowhere with his chiselled face and soul of a poet, singing songs of despair and whimsy while famously swinging a bunch of daffodils around the stage. And just as there's no replacing this iconic individual, there's seemingly no way you could possibly recreate him on screen. Or is there?

With a biopic in the works, producers could do a lot worse than turn to Matt Smith. There's a physical resemblance, but most importantly Smith, like Morrissey, is unique. Arguably no other actor currently in the public eye has the dual ability to be both retro and modern in the way this chap does. Doctor Who co-star Frances Barber summed it up best when she described him as like someone from a previous century working today. Not a bad description of the animal-championing singer himself!

Smith also exercised his lungs on the boards as part of American Psycho: The Musical, where he got rave reviews. Portraying such a savage and contradictory figure as Patrick Bateman is good groundwork for tackling the dark and flamboyant world of Morrissey.
