10 Intriguing Movie Roles Matt Smith Should Play

8. Doctor Tiger Ninestein

With Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds returning to British screens after a misfiring movie adaptation, interest in the great man's output is higher than ever. There's a raft of shows to pick  up for potential revival, from Captain Scarlet to Stingray. But the major money is in something that could make it to the multiplex and as Big Finish Productions resurrect it on audio, might it be 1980s curio Terrahawks that gets the Hollywood treatment?

Following a Thunderbird-esque team of operatives as they battled the freakish Zelda of Mars, its central hero was Doctor Tiger Ninestein, an apparently average square-jawed type. Until he got killed that is. Ninestein turned out to be one of a series of clones around the world, so when the Terrahawks' leader fell in the call of duty, another would be despatched to take his place.

This is where the fun bit comes in, for suddenly they had a spitting image of the man, only with completely different clothes and accent. By the next week he'd be assimilated to the previous personality, but this aspect could be highly amusing to develop in a film. Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat memorably thought of Matt Smith as a caricature of a handsome man and this quirky dimension makes his former star a great choice to play this most unusual of crusaders.
