7. The Predator - Predator (1987)

A true icon of 1980s movie characters, not just movie monsters as a whole, The Predator was so badass it very nearly got one over Arnie. This is a perfect example of how to do the whole humanoid thing correctly: it looks like a man when wearing a helmet, albeit a very large one with a horrendous skin condition, but still fairly human-like. So Schwarzenegger and co spend most of the film believing they are being stalked by just some crazy-huge jungle hunter...until the helmet is removed, of course. The sheer ugliness of the face of the Predator is a sight to behold, and you'd struggle to think of anything which looks more convincingly alien. A sideways opening, four-cornered mouth which lets out ear-splitting shrieks is truly difficult to take the eyes away from. We instantly join Arnie in thinking "oh fiddlesticks, this is somewhat trickier than previously thought", or at least words to that effect. Just a look at that face lets us know how otherworldly the Predator is, and we're still fascinated by it now, over 25 years since the film was released. Fair enough, some of the reappearances have been Alien Vs Predator films, or ones starring Adrian Brody as an action hero, but still, we keep making them, so it must have had a lasting impression.
