10 Karen Gillan Performances You Have To See

9. Outcast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d14cmMeoIPw If witchcraft themed horrors are your thing, you need look no further than Outcast which Karen appeared in back in 2010. Although it didn't really hit the ground running, it was "the one that started it all" as far as her now glistening cinematic career is concerned. The independent thriller, which received a limited cinematic release after being premiered at the Cannes festival, tells the tantalising tale of a doomed couple whose Edinburgh estate is being haunted by a magical Beast. As the plot thickens, it turns out that it might actually be something - or someone - else responsible for the chain of merciless killings. Karen stars as the very Scottish (seriously - see for yourself in the video above!) Ally in the film which was co-written and directed by Colm McCarthy who just missed out on being reunited with Karen when he helmed the 2013 Doctor Who episode The Bells of Saint John. As another point of intrigue, Outcast served as Karen's first film role if you exclude her previous 'blink and you'll miss it' bit part in the 2008 drama New Town Killers, starring Doctor Who guest star Dougray Scott, in which she appeared as the unnamed 'Young girl at bus station'. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
