10 Last-Minute Replacements If Ben Affleck Quits The Batman
4. Jim Caviezel
Any fans of the criminally-underrated Person of Interest (also known as 'the best TV show your friends have never seen') will already be nodding their heads in agreement on this one, as the series' five-season run essentially presented a Batman story on the small screen with a few cosmetic changes, which surely isn't a coincidence given that the concept came from a certain Jonathan Nolan.
Jim Caviezel's John Reese is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, uses guns but refuses to kill, utilizes gadgets to help solve crimes and has allies working within the police department. Sound a little familiar? When you position Michael Emerson's Finch as the Alfred to Reese's Batman (which also checks 'enigmatic billionaire' off the list), the similarities become even more striking.
However, Caviezel's work is much more than a thinly-veiled Batman impression. Sure, there's the whole 'gruff and husky voice' thing going on, but during the show's run the 48 year-old actor gave great depth to a character that could easily slip into one-dimensional 'generic badass' territory, painting Reese as a man constantly at war with his past and generating sympathy from the audience while also beating dozens of interchangeable henchmen to a pulp.
With his grey-flecked hair, all-American looks and a gap in his schedule, Jim Caviezel would be a great dark-horse candidate to take up the mantle of a world-weary and battered Batman should the role need to be recast in the near future.
