10 Latin Movies You Should Watch

9. 7 Boxes (2012, Paraguay)

7 Boxes

Original Tittle: 7 Cajas. Victor is a wheelbarrow carrier in a street market in Asuncion, Paraguay. Only 17 years old, he spends a lot of time day-dreaming about becoming famous while his reality is much less glamorous: he carries people's purchases for a small amount of money. When a butcher offers him U$100 to deliver 7 boxes with an unknown content, he accepts it right away. He is given half of a hundred-dollar-bill and will receive the other one when the job is finished. Victor needs to cross the 8 blocks of the market with the help of Liz, his friend, but he didn't expect it to be so complicated. Despite having a low budget, 7 Boxes is a great film with a good speed, especially in the action scenes. Extremely dynamic, it is hard to predict what will happen next, and even harder to stop watching it until the mystery is unsolved. The great chemistry between the two main actors, Cesar Franco and Lali González, is one of the best things in the movie, making us cheer for Victor and Liz during the entire film. 7 Boxes is a thriller movie directed by Juan Claudio Manellia. It is mostly set in a street market, illustrating the real life of the less fortunate people in Asuncion and it makes a great use of its space. It is also interesting that apart from Spanish, the Guarani dialect, an indigenous language from South America is also spoken. These details make the experience of watching the film not only great fun, but also a way to learn more about Paraguay.
