5. The Nut Job (2014)

Within our entries so far, you've probably noticed a frequent pattern of famous celebrities working for a massive pay cheque, a completely empty ensemble and some poor excuses for what passes as humour.

The Nut Job is in-keeping with this theme, except it has even more negative factors to offer, right down to its despicably awful Surly as the lead character to the extremely tepid plot which is set in New York just for the sake of a recognisable backdrop.

Surly is a thieving squirrel who has gone too far with crimes and is now considered an outcast by his park community (who meet up in an abnormally large tree). In order to redeem himself, he must pull off a major heist in one of the city's nut stores. The narrative tries to give Surly a character arc by developing him as someone who's learned the error of his ways, but they made him too unlikable for anyone to believe the change.

The only redeeming factor is that the voice actors genuinely give good performances. But in an otherwise terrible animated flick, what's the point? It's just a resoundingly mediocre movie.
