10 Least Accurate Movie Portrayals Of Comic Book Characters Ever
8. Spider-Man
With Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Andrew Garfield's version of the Wall-crawler has a newfound popularity, though this hasn't always been the case. If anything, Garfield's Spider-Man was initially controversial, and for good reason too.
Whether you love or hate the Amazing Spider-Man duology, one aspect that was contentious amongst comic book buffs was the representation of Peter Parker, as well as his heroic alter-ego. In the 2012 film, Parker starts off as a bratty skater who has no problems flirting with girls or disobeying the rules. As long-time fans of the character know, Peter Parker is the polar opposite of this; he's a shy, nerdy kid who's a social outcast.
Worse still, are Peter's motivations for becoming Spider-Man. Rather than out of respect for his uncle's mantra - "With great power comes great responsibility" - Parker suits up to avenge Uncle Ben's death by finding and killing his murderer. It's only at the mid point of the film does the Web-slinger choose to put aside his grievances and become a true hero, but by then, the damage is already done.
Hopefully, Andrew Garfield will get another shot at the character, and if the fan reaction to No Way Home is anything to go off, Sony surely will be considering bringing the actor back into the role.
