10 Least Convincing Nerd Characters In Cinema

2. Chris Evans - The Losers

There€™s a scene in The Losers that perfectly sums up the problem with casting Chris Evans as a geek. Evans€™ character is the resident techie for a band of rogue soldiers, who are hired by Zoe Saldana€™s mysterious agent for a dangerous job. And in an early scene Evans€™ character approaches Saldana and starts awkwardly flirting with her. Now, the joke is supposed to be that it€™s crazy this total dork would try to chat up a woman that€™s totally out of his league. But as this dork is played by Chris Evans, that really handsome, charming, charismatic, funny, muscled actor, it doesn€™t seem all that ludicrous she might find him attractive. Yet in the reality of The Losers he apparently has all the looks and charm of Milhouse from The Simpsons, so he gets rejected quickly. What€™s even stranger is that he gets rejected in favour of the team€™s leader Jeffery Dean Morgan. Now while Morgan is a ruggedly handsome guy, he not really a beefcake either. But here he€™s irresistible, while Evans and fellow teammate Idris Elba are completely overlooked. And in a film with any number of over of the top actions scenes, this feels like the most implausible element of all.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
