Angelina Jolie is famously one of the most attractive woman on the planet, and even though she was relatively unknown when Hackers was released in 1995, it seems doubtful anyone could look at her and see a raging computer nerd. But the film, which has become a real cult oddity, takes place in a world where hackers are super hip rebels who love to skate, and complicated hacks are seen with colourful graphics and text. But, coolness aside, hackers - which has become quite a running theme here - spend a large amount of their time hunched over a computer typing in lines of code. It requires patience and a lot of technical knowhow. So picturing Jolie, whose character is named Acid Burn, possessing all of that fundamental knowledge and choosing to spend most of her time stooped over a computer doesnt feel like reality in any way, shape or form. In contrast she made a perfect Lara Croft because you could see her enjoying the skydiving, shooting and motorcycle stuff. Hacking databases and installing worms just doesnt seem like her style. That said, if all hackers looked like Angelina Jolie or Jonny Lee Miller, it would probably be a much more popular lifestyle.
