10 Least Terrifying Villains In Horror Movie History
3. The Demons - Paranormal Activity 5: Ghost Dimension
The Paranormal Activity franchise has always been consistent in its ability to develop a sense of foreboding, with a mix of jump scares thrown in for good measure. A large reason for the franchise's success is its choice of leaving the demonic threat unseen, a choice that ALWAYS works in horror films.
But as the franchise increasingly became stale and the audience gradually became bored with the formula, the filmmakers decided for the first time to actually show us the evil entities. The decision was a massive mistake and sucked the life out of a previously intimidating and outright terrifying villain.
Instead we get poorly rendered CGI that unintentionally shows the audience that there is truly nothing to be scared of. The film's finale reverts back to inferring the demon spirits and is far more enjoyable for it, but it's too late to save the film or the fear we once had for Toby and his gang.
