3. Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz) - Rafe Spall & Jamie Bell
The Premise: Two blokes in their 30s are sat watching MTV one night when they decide they could do a better job. Together they form an animated pop group that fights for chart space amidst American pop heroes. Damon Albarn's main band, Blur, is often considered the one with the incredible backstory, but Gorillaz isn't bad either. Albarn and Hewlett are an incredible double-act, and the idea of the pair of them launching an assault on the charts from their London flat is an interesting one to say the least. Albarn is a cultured perfectionist; it's a lead role that would seemingly suit Rafe Spall down to the ground - from the looks, to the accent - and he's about the only actor in Hollywood who's both "laddish" and middle-class enough to play Albarn. From documentary footage and interviews, it's clear that Hewlett's more of a wry wind-up merchant; an unshaven Jamie Bell could relish that part, and the pair of them would certainly develop an interesting chemistry. It would make for an extremely funny movie, but these two blokes genuinely shared chart space with the likes of Madonna; they were already successful before Gorillaz, but that's a very unique kind of underdog story. The arguments that reportedly forced Gorillaz on permanent hiatus in 2010, only add to the idea that this would make a great film. And if it ever happens, we need to get to get 'Plastic Beach' collaborator Snoop Dogg on board for a cameo.
