2. Noroi: The Curse

Because we're allowing just one found footage film on this list, why not make it one of the greatest of all time, and yet one you've probably never seen?

2005's Noroi: The Curse is a pitch-perfect mockumentary in which a paranormal documentary filmmaker, Masafumi Kobayashi (Jin Muraki), goes missing while making his latest project, The Curse.

The rest of the movie mostly plays out with footage from Kobayashi's film, which not only touts an uncommon technical plausibility, but also happens to be tightly written, unnervingly staged, and capably acted by a cast of Japanese actors you likely won't be familiar with - as aids the immersion.

Don't be scared off by that 115-minute runtime - often the kiss of death for found footage - because Noroi is an intoxicating, compulsive experience from its very first scene all the way to its closing images, which are sure to imprint themselves on your brain.
