10 Long-Awaited Movie Sequels That Will Literally Never Get Made

The Goonies may be 35 years old, but much like the title characters themselves, talk of a sequel has never said die quite yet. Long-delayed sequels have always been a hit-or-miss venture, but the risk of tainting the reputation of one of the most universally-beloved movies ever made would make it a fool's errand to even try.

That being said, the speculation comes and goes every now and again, with Sean Astin saying in 2007 that a sequel was an absolute certainty, while director Richard Donner and producer Steven Spielberg have largely been more vague on the matter, but have both confirmed at various points that it was definitely something they were looking into.

Just the other day, writer Adam Goldberg revealed that he'd written a spec script for a Goonies sequel, and had even scheduled a meeting with Donner before it was canceled due to the current restrictions in place around the world. Many of the original cast aren't even in the acting game any more and haven't been for decades, and despite the constant attempts to get it off the ground over the years the smart money is on The Goonies 2 never being made.
