10 Lord Of The Rings Book Characters We're Thankful Were Left Out Of The Movies

1. Glorfindel

Glorfindel is arguably the most badass Elf to ever live. He is so awesome, he single-handedly killed a Balrog. Even though he perished in that same battle, the gods thought he was too cool to stay dead and thus revived him.

But if he's so powerful, where was he in The Lord of the Rings? Well, in the novel, it was Glorfindel who rescued Frodo from the Nazgul, not Arwen. He was also considered to join the Fellowship but was ruled out since he was too well-known to be involved in a secret mission.

Nevertheless, it seems absurd for the greatest Elf in Middle-Earth to sit out on the biggest conflict the world has ever seen. As a result, it was sensible to substitute the character for Arwen since the story has so few female characters. Even though Arwen is Aragorn's true love, she does very little in the novel except pine for him so it was logical to give her a more active role in the story.

Although Glorfindel does appear in the first and third movie entries, he never speaks, nor does he get to show off his power - though hopefully he'll get his chance to do just that in the upcoming Amazon TV series.
