Almost thirty years have passed since Rob Reiners Stand By Me entered cinemas, and it still remains the bar against which almost everyone measures coming-of-age films. The four young boys predominantly come from broken homes or abusive pasts, and its the thought of discovering the body and becoming town heroes that sets them on their path to growing up. Kiefer Sutherland puts in a frequently-forgotten performance as the older local bully, and theres plenty that stands between the boys and their discovery. And with the young quartet trekking through a leech-filled swamp, forcing the leader to remove one from quite a delicate area on his body, you cant help but love this toughened group of boys as they become, if not men, then at least young adults.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
