No list of misfits would be complete without The Goonies. Its basically a given, an unwritten rule. Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, Brand, Andy, Stef, and of course Sloth these are names that you know and love, because theyre a part of your childhood. (Assuming you grew up in the 80s or beyond. And if you did and they werent, then they really should have been.) Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, and Sloth, especially. Like the boys in Stand By Me, the Goonies have treasure on their minds, only this time literally, complete with treasure map, a pirate by the name of One-Eyed Willie, and an underground cavern and pirate ship. Steven Spielbergs Amblin Entertainment knew exactly what audiences wanted, and its something so rarely seen these days. A group of misfits, shunned by their peers, that could unite and become heroes? Its the ultimate escape for any child whos ever been bullied, showing them a light at the end of the tunnel. And if you can do that and also introduce the beloved Truffle Shuffle and a handful of catchphrases in one sitting, you know youve done something right.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
