10 Major Issues Surrounding The Justice League Movie

4. The Script Needs To Be Very, Very Good

It wasn't just the fanboy wish-fulfillment and spectacular action sequences that made The Avengers such a massive success; the script was just as important. In Joss Whedon's hands, what could have easily disintegrated into a mindless series of set-pieces was instilled with wit, charm and no shortage of humor. It was maintaining this balance that made The Avengers such an enjoyable experience, and is something that the Justice League adaptation should keep in mind. However, the continued involvement of David Goyer doesn't instil a lot of confidence. Goyer reportedly landed a three-picture deal from Warner Bros. that covers Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Justice League, so at least there will be some connective tissue throughout the three screenplays. As a writer, Goyer has a lot of great ideas but comes up short in the character and dialogue departments when scripting on his own. It comes as no surprise that his most acclaimed screenplays were co-written with the Nolan brothers, or that Academy Award winner Chris Terrio was brought onboard to rewrite Goyer's draft of Batman vs Superman. At this moment in time the Justice League script is reported to be 'in development', which is to be expected given the release date is several years away. It would be safe to assume that Goyer will at least be involved in the initial drafts and working out the story, but a talented writer is definitely needed for the project. In a bold attempt to replicate the success of The Avengers just three movies into their shared cinematic universe, a Justice League script will need to balance the huge-scale action with the smaller dramatic moments and give each character their due, especially as several of them will be making their big-screen debuts. After the flat dialogue and dearth of humor that affected Man of Steel, a lot more vibrancy is needed in the scripting to prevent things from becoming tedious, especially with all the backstory that Justice League needs to get out of the way.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
