J.J. Abrams just delivered a divisive finale to the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a movie which has underperformed at the box office by barely limping past the $1 billion mark (yes, that really is considered a disappointing result these days). Before that, the filmmaker signed a lucrative deal with Warner Bros. which could see him take charge of Superman.

While Michael B. Jordan approached the studio with a fresh take on the Man of Steel, his busy schedule means that couldn't possibly happen for years to come. As a result, Warner Bros. has met with Abrams to discuss him working on a new Superman film according to Variety.

We don't know whether this version would include Henry Cavill, but it wouldn't be the first time Abrams has worked on the iconic DC Comics character. The last time was for Superman: Flyby, a pretty terrible sounding take on the hero which was set to be directed by McG and later Brett Ratner. Abrams penned the screenplay for that scrapped project, so if he does direct a new Superman movie, here's hoping he enlists a decent writer to help out.
