10 Major Problems With Zack Snyder’s Justice League
3. Martian Manhunter Did Nothing For Three Films
Near the end of the Snyder Cut, it is revealed that the Secretary of Defence for the US Government, Calvin Swanwick, is the Martian Manhunter. After Steppenwolf is defeated, Martian Manhunter makes contact with Bruce Wayne and tells him that he was inspired by what he and the League did and is now willing to be more directly involved in defending Earth.
As cool a reference as this must have been for fans of the character and the comics, the inclusion of Martian Manhunter in this way raises major concerns not just in the Snyder Cut, but in other films as well.
The character Calvin Swanwick is introduced for the first time in the Superman origin film, Man of Steel, and also appears in the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice film. This means that the Martian Manhunter could have helped defend Earth from multiple apocalyptic events, but chose not to.
Instead of helping Superman or the other members of the Justice League fighting General Zod, Doomsday or Steppenwolf, he decided to protect his identity and let them fight by themselves. This makes Martian Manhunter look like a coward and once again goes against the main theme of the film.
