10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter Eggs That Led Nowhere

3. Namor In Iron Man 2?

When Iron Man 2 debuted back in 2010, the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn't the all-powerful juggernaut it is today and its world-building was often more nuanced.

Sure, there were always post-credits stingers, but low-key Easter eggs did the rest. During the scene where Tony Stark is being debriefed by SHIELD, a digital map in the background pinpoints the whereabouts of other potential Avengers recruits.

The location of frozen Captain America is earmarked, along with Thor's hammer and even Wakanda, a part of the MCU that wouldn't become relevant until many years later when Black Panther made his big-screen debut in Civil War.

But most interesting of all is a mystery marker in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which is likely to be a subtle reference to Namor the Submariner. Almost eight years later, though, the aquatic hero is yet to find his way to MCU waters.

That could well change after Phase Three has run it course. Going back to those comments from Kevin Feige about radically different films being in the pipeline, one set in the depths of the ocean would certainly tie in with that concept.
