10 Marvel Movie Elements That No Longer Matter

7. Superheroes Wearing Masks

Iron Man blew the lid off this in the MCU's very first movie: after deliberating about the age-old superhero dilemma of having his identity revealed, Tony Stark decides to appear in plain sight, flat-out admitting to being Iron Man at the end of the film in hilarious fashion. Apparently seeing the goofiness and rote nature of the whole secret identity shtick, the identity of most of the MCU's heroes are well-known, making the need for masks pretty much irrelevant. This is interesting when you consider that, while the likes of Iron Man and Ant-Man rightly wear helmets for the sake of armour, Cap wears a flimsy, identity-concealing mask-helmet combo which seems utterly redundant, as everybody knows who he is anyway. In the MCU, masks are utterly pointless outside of a protective purpose, to the extent that the upcoming Captain America: Civil War had to alter the Superhuman Registration Act from the comics: in the source material, much of the focus was on the Avengers revealing their secret identities, but as this isn't really an option in the MCU, it's instead shifted towards strict accountability for their actions.
