10 Massive Movie Predictions For The Rest Of 2016
1. The Birth Of A Nation Is The Best Picture Oscar Frontrunner
Though the rest of the year will see the majority of 2016's big Oscar contenders rolling out, including Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Silence, Passengers, Sully and Snowden, there's one that'd had momentum since all the way back in January, when it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance.
The Birth of a Nation is the brainchild of writer, director, producer and actor Nate Parker, whose film about slave rebel leader Nat Turner has racked up an impressive 96% to date on Rotten Tomatoes, and is largely considered to be a major contender for the Best Picture Oscar.
In addition to staking out some early awards ground, it would be all-too-apt that, after years of campaigning to make the Oscars more diverse, a movie controlled in every major aspect by a black man ends up winning the top honour.
Whether The Birth of a Nation ultimately wins Best Picture or not, it would take something mighty to knock it from the top spot, so expect it to be the sure leader of the pack heading into 2017.
