10 Massive Unanswered Movie Mysteries (That Were Actually Solved)
2. Why Do The Engineers Hate Humanity? - Prometheus
Since Damon Lindelof wrote the script, it was a given there’d be lots of “mystery box” crap with Prometheus. Many things are up in the air, including the motives of certain characters – David in particular – and the question of why The Engineers hate humanity so much after they created us.
It turns out the reason was included in earlier drafts, but Ridley Scott felt it was too on the nose. The answer is there if you look for it; the disaster that wiped out the base happened 2,000 years ago, and the Prometheus happens to land on the planet during Christmas.
Got it yet? Yeah, the Engineers hate humanity because they crucified Jesus. The aliens kept track of our progress throughout the ages, and when they got worried about the wars and nastiness they sent down an emissary to cool things down. When we killed him they decided to wipe out all life on Earth, but an accident with the black goo led to their own destruction.
Scott confirmed this during an interview in 2012; he really loves spoiling the mystery of his own stuff, doesn’t he?
