10 MCU Character Changes We Will Likely See In Phase 4

2. Doctor Strange Will Lead The Avengers

Despite being one of the central figures in the battle against Thanos, Doctor Strange has never been an Avenger in the MCU. He has fought side by side with Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but always remained more concerned with the mystical threats the universe posed rather than the physical.

However, after the events of Endgame, with Tony dead and Thor and Captain America both MIA, the Avengers will need a new leader. Sam's Captain America is a strong candidate, while someone like Peter Parker is too young, and Ikaris is now too dead. Enter a master of the mystic arts.

Doctor Strange knows just about everybody affiliated with the Avengers, he has proven himself a strong leader, and is shy of the Sorcerer Supreme title thanks only to a technicality. Should a multiversal threat like Kang the Conqueror bring the mystic and physical worlds together, Doctor Strange would be the perfect hero for the job. Wong may be assembling them, but Strange will lead them.

All of this has seemingly been confirmed by Marvel Studios in Japan. Their synopsis of the Multiverse of Madness described Strange as someone "expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers". Since he technically has no previous affiliations with the team, there must be something coming in the future to bring them together.
