10 MCU Moments Better Than Their Comic Origin
9. Hail Hydra
Two words uttered by everyone's favourite Star-Spangled Man with a plan sent shockwaves across comic book fandoms worldwide, and not in a good way. Once the Captain said the Nazi cult's calling card out loud, controversy ensued due to the implications that the very man who fought against Nazi tyranny and ideologies would be part of the cult itself. It was a betrayal of the character's spirit and ignored his creators' Jewish heritage.
It was all revealed to be reality-warping by the Red Skull who was in possession of a sentient Cosmic Cube, but it did not change the problematic nature of the story. However, Avengers: Endgame took this moment and actually made it work in an organic and fan-pleasing way.
During the film's time heist, Captain America attempts to retrieve the Scepter (which had the Mind Stone) from S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra agents. He then finds himself in an elevator very reminiscent of the infamous elevator fight from Winter Soldier, down to being surrounded by the same agents.
However, instead of fighting his way through the agents, he simply whispers Hail Hydra in one of their ears and takes off with the Scepter without having thrown a punch. It was a great moment that called back to one of the more memorable fight scenes in the MCU and showed Steve Rogers' growth in his tactical work since his earlier days.
